Scenarios are available for download in PDF format, and
suggestions for additional or modified scenarios are always welcome.
The scenarios are divided into CPR and Non-CPR. Non-CPR scenarios
are read through in a round table setting and discussed by
candidates, with one candidate taking the lead role and others
acting as assistants. These roles may rotate in the course of one
scenario, and this type of scenario is very valuable for reminding
staff of the details of management of e.g. MH. CPR scenarios involve
a mannequin, defibrillator, and ancillary equipment. The assessment
of any individual is both formative and summative and is both norm
as well as criterion based, and although some points are assessed
subjectively, many important points are objective, for instance:
All the essential competencies (defibrillator safety, ALS algorithm
for VF, or cricothyrotomy practice for instance)
A large proportion of desirable competencies such as the ALS
bradycardia and pacing algorithm, or PEA
However assessment of a selection of discussion (Non-CPR) scenarios
is based on informal self assessment in a peer group setting.
